I have been working in the beauty industry since 2003, I did my training at Blanche MacDonald Centre where I took the Makeup Artistry & Nail Technician Programs. Shortly after graduating from my nail program I was hired at a salon where I continued to work until the beginning of 2009, this is when I decided to expand my business and start Jessica Vero Nail Design. This gave me the chance to expand and diversify my love for nail art, as well as explore new ventures. December 2011 I started my nail art blog Nailed Daily, I did this as a challenge to myself. For one year I did 365 different nail designs one for each day of the year. I successfully completed this project Nov 30, 2012.
In 2013 I decided to compete for Nails Magazines Next Top Nail Artist, this is an online nail art competition to find the next top nail artist for one of the leading Nail Magazines. The winner that year would get a chance to work with my favourite brand Gelish. Unfortunately I was eliminated in the top 2, this was disappointing however it helped push me to apply for an opportunity to work for brand that I loved. In February 2014 I travelled to Gelish head office in Brea, California where I completed my training as a Bachelor Educator. In 2016 I recertified as a Master Educator for the company.By working for gelish not only do I get to teach, I also get invited to attend trainings and education opportunities where I am able to learn about all the newest advancements and products releases before they are even available.
I always take pride in taking more education to further my skills and offer better services for my clients. In 2015 I did training through the North American School of Podology to become a Certified Master Pedicurist. This allows me to offer safe medical pedicures for diabetic and geriatric clients
Whenever possible I love to compete at international nail competitions. I have won awards and had the opportunity to compete against some of the top nail techs in the industry. The category that I enjoy the most is fantasy which involves long elaborate nails that take months to create, as well as full makeup and costuming all done by the competitor (See awards page)
My biggest accomplishment to date was opening my own salon. On April 1st, 2017 I opened Vero & Co Studio, one of the few 100% Vegan full service salons in Canada. By having my own space I am to offer services that align with my values of being cruelty free and environmentally friendly. I am also able to pursue my passion of teaching by offering classes in the salon and running my mentorship program. My dream is to further develop my academy and spend more time teaching and helping new nail techs develop their careers.
